POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY Beginning Wednesday 18th April.
What makes people happy? How can we improve our general well-being? These are the kinds of questions asked by Positive Psychologists whose answers in the last 10 years have created a whole new branch of psychology. I am seeking to set up a small study group of interested individuals who’would like to explore these issues and try out some of the techniques and interventions the new movement has generated. This will require regular group-work and some written record- keeping or diary entry between sessions to support practice.
The group would not be ‘therapeutic’ in a clinical sense. It would simply be a meeting of individuals keen to explore wellbeing for its own sake and not as a “cure” for depression or other mental ailments. Neither would it be anchored to any particular spiritual movement or set of ideas, but be centred around evidence-based experimental psychology. In addition, I would like to explore new ideas for developing “brain fitness”, creativity and memory skills as I believe these marry nicely with well-being.
Meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10am to 12 in the morning at Room 14, 6th Form College.
