New members may pay the annual subscription to The membership Secretatary or on their first attendance at their chosen group, subject to the group having vacancies. Each group session attended costs £1. Members can belong to as many groups as they wish.

Membership is available to adults who are no longer in full-time employment or had child-raising responsibilities.

The Group Leaders and the Committee are unpaid volunteers using their wealth of skills and time for the benefit of others. Providing more than 50 opportunities for participation.
Most members are aged over 55. No educational qualifications are needed or awarded.

The University part of the University of the Third Age title (U3A) means learning from each other and includes educational, recreational and creative activities in an informal, friendly atmosphere of companionship.

Most of the group meetings take place at the Moorlands College 6th Form Centre, Attlee Road. Other venues used are shown in the Programme of Activities. Groups meeting at the Moorlands College do not operate during school holidays. Other groups also have a break during the summer months, typically July and August and at Christmas/New Year. Some groups only operate during specific periods of the year.

Before attending a group session, prospective members need to contact the relevant Group Leader direct to check for a vacancy or if necessary via the Membership Secretary or Groups Coordinator. If a group is currently fully subscribed or closed to new members (which occurs when it becomes difficult to accommodate new starters ability with the current members), A prospective member can ask or will be advised of the opportunity of going on a waiting list to join.
